Dewresh and Edule: The Cureless Love

Although the artist has merged the two lovers into a single form, he has eternally separated them with colors and symbols. The warm, fire-red face on the left is Edule, daughter of the Milan tribe. She is the burning side of love, the one who waits. Tent and Crescent; the tent located immediately below Edule represents her father Zor Temir Pasha and his unshakable authority. The Crescent on the tent symbolizes the Muslim identity of this tribe. This crescent is that first insurmountable wall of the difference in faith between her and Dewresh. The cool, deep blue face on the right is the brave Dewresh. He is the side of sorrow, fate, and spiritual depth. The Peacock represents his Yazidi identity and faith. Dewresh is in love with the world of the Crescent (Edule) but belongs to the world of the Peacock (his own essence). The blue color symbolizes the loneliness he brought from the Shengal mountains and his march to death (martyrdom) for this love. The two faces are intertwined because their souls are one. Yet their colors never mix; they are separated by a sharp line. This line is 'Incurability' itself. In this work, the artist tells of two half-souls, one fire and the other water, separated by traditions and beliefs but united only by legends and death.
